Welcome my friends to a new season.
The Fixture Lists and dates for practice nets are now beginning to
appear and show off the hard work of Secretaries and Captains
in setting up the senior battles between the counties this summer.
(A full fixture list is available on the website).
How attractive these fixtures look! Home matches at for example
Hursley Park, Lymington and Ellingham and away games at Truro, Exmouth and Royal Ascot. The cricketing spirits are rising and global warming promises four summer months of blue and rainless skies.
In welcoming you to another season of Hampshire Senior cricket I can
promise you all a standard of play which will challenge every level;
competition that will get your blood boiling and friendship and fun that is only found in seniors cricket.
Hampshire seniors have enjoyed considerable success over the
recent years, including several players selected for England
International Test matches. 2010 sees the most XIs and fixtures ever for Hampshire seniors and I am grateful to Nick Blacksted/Petersfield
for coming forward to run the new 60+ XI - who I know will do well
this summer.
Our 50+ XI Captain Alan Wright has stepped down after five successful
years and a new Captain will be sought in the coming months.
Looking a long way down the line the 60+ XI will visit La Manga Spain in
October 2010 and the Seniors Annual Dinner will take place at
Corhampton Golf Club in November 2010. Can I also remind you of
our excellent golf matches in Feb-Mar-Apr and Sept-Oct 2010.
All details on site.
For those happy cricketers just returned from Barbados I imagine
your cricket gear is all prepared and neatly packed in the bag
by the radiator in the hall. For the rest of us its the annual spring trip to the loft to find the shrinking flannels and yellowing pads, together
with the ageing bat with the small red blob on the outside edge
from last August. All of us still dreaming of summer triumphs to come.
Finally, may I recommend our brilliant website under the skilful hands
of Brian Hart. It is full of all sorts of HSCC details.
But one big question is still to be answered; it is this." How many wickets will Captain and off - spin bowler Pat Wickson
take for HSCC this season"
Please let me know. A Bottle of Scotch for the Winner.
Good luck to you all this season
John Rickard
