Welcome to the new
look Hampshire Seniors website
following our formal inauguration as a
Club affiliated to the Hampshire Cricket
Board.
Hampshire Seniors
Cricket has been running for over 20
years and joined the ECB 50+ competition
in the 1980’s. Currently the competition
is divided into 5 groups of 8 teams with
the top 3 in each group and best 4th
place going through to the last 16.
Hampshire are in the
South West group 3 playing against the
Channel Isles, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset,
Isle of Wight, Somerset and Wiltshire
with fixtures either home or away on an
alternate basis each year.
The popularity of
Seniors cricket has never been stronger
and in addition to our 50+ team HSCC
also has a 60+ team which competes in a
10 team Image Company Home Counties 60+
Cricket Competition. The 50+ section is
also running a 2ndX1 in 2008 with the
expectation that a formal competition
will ensue in 2009. (A full fixture
list is available on the website).
The standard of batting and bowling is
comparable to good club cricket –
fielding less so as “old father time”
takes his toll on throwing arms and
speed of foot – but games are often very
competitive.
The Hampshire 50+
team has achieved some success in recent
years; notably in 2007 when losing a
close Quarter Final tie to old
adversaries Kent who then proved to be
runaway winners. This year Counties have
the added incentive in that the Final is
to be played at Lord’s on Sunday 28
September – please annotate your
diaries!!
Annual membership is
available for a £20 subscription (£30
for couples) entitling members, not only
to play cricket but also to participate
on our bi-annual overseas cricket/golf
tours. Memorably, in recent years, we
visited Australia in 2003, Sri Lanka in
2005 and South Africa in 2007. An
exciting trip to Argentina and Chile in
February and March 2009 is in the
planning stages – Mike Swain, our
Secretary is overseeing. (Membership
applications can be downloaded from the
website).
Silver surfers -
please use our extensive on-line
shopping facility. All purchases are at
competitive prices and will be of
financial benefit to the Club.
The aim of the
website is to provide full information
on all matters relating to HSCC with
regular updates and match reports,
photographs, tour diaries – all
suggestions welcome!
Finally, may I say a
big thank you to all our sponsors and
friends who have supported Hampshire
Seniors Cricket over many years and in
particular, Grayton Estates Limited who
have been most generous in providing
funds to ensure our continued viability.
See you all at
Lord’s.
