Hampshire v Channel islands
Hampshire Seniors cruised to an impressive 7 wicket victory when they entertained old adversaries, Channel Islands at Hursley Park. The visitors won the toss & batted but were immediately contained by excellent spells from opening bowlers Trevor Foreman & Steve Mitchell, who conceded a mere 30 runs from their 18 overs. They struggled to increase the scoring rate with only Gorman 74 providing real resistance. Mike Swain 3-41 backed up by three smart run outs restricted the visitors to 180 from their 45 overs.
Geoff Owen, Martin Hall & Mike Swain all made useful contributions as Hampshire steadily chipped away at the target. It was left to skipper Alan Wright, who batted imperiously for his 49 not out & man of the match Steve Mitchell, 30 not out, to put on an unbeaten stand of 87 for the 4th wicket to ease the Seniors to their target with nearly 8 overs in hand.
This was Hampshire's third win from four outings and leaves them in good heart for the important fixture aginst local rivals Dorset, next Wed 28 June at Lymington.
