Hampshire v Isle of Wight
Hampshire Seniors strolled to their expected win, defeating a weak Isle of Wight team by svene wickets when they visited the picturesque Shanklin ground. Hampshire bowled economically throughout and only skipper Watson made any impression on the Seniors attack. Mark Tiplady bowled well for his three wicket haul which was matched by Andy Yorke who was aided by three excellent legside stumpings from "stand in" 'keeper Jan Bridle - don't hang up the gloves just yet Jan!! Good catching and ground fielding all round never allowed the Island Seniors the chance to build a defendable score.
With the result virtually assured, openers Geoff Owen & Martin Hall took only eight overs to reach 50. Mike Swain continued the assault and it was left to skipper Alan Wright and Tony Adams (batting at last!) to see Hampshire home with nearly 25 overs to spare for an easy victory.
All the indications are that Group qualification now depends on the match against Group leaders Somerset at Paultons, Wed 12 July next.
