Hampshire Seniors cruised to a 56 run victory in a rain affected match against Cornwall in their third Championship game of the season at Paultons.
Winning the toss, Hampshire elected to bat & openers Barry Goodman (17) & Ian Britton (28) quickly put on 55 for the first wicket. Mike Swain (18) & Alan Wright (18) kept the scoreboard moving but when both were out leaving the score at 94-4 it looked as the Seniors might be in trouble. However Martin Hall (63) & Chris Wood (63) took the game away from Cornwall with an excellent partnership of 128 for the 5th wicket. A quickfire 39* from Terry Rawlings supported by Mark Tiplady (15*) saw Hampshire post a formidable 279-6 from their 45 overs.
With rain in the offing, Hampshire were required to bowl a minimum 20 overs to secure a result. The Cornwall batsmen were always behind the rate finishing on 75-2 when play was abandoned after the 21st over as heavy rain forced the players from the field - (adjusted target score 131).
Another good all round performance from the Seniors who next face the Isle of Wight at Lymington on Wed 27 June, confident of another victory in their quest for Group qualification.
