Hampshire v Wiltshire

The Seniors bounced back from their defeat by Somerset to record a resounding 138 run win against Wiltshire at the County Ground, Swindon.

Hampshire won the toss, elected to bat and soon set about plundering runs from a weak Wiltshire bowling attack. Stars of the show were opener Ian Britton (95) who fell just five runs short of a deserved maiden century for the Seniors, and skipper Alan Wright who once again showed his class with an unbeaten 80. Martin Hall (26) and an aggressive cameo from Jim Smallbone (26*) at the death, provided useful support as the Seniors, who, despite a mini collapse in the lower order, closed on 295-8.

This total was always going to be beyond the Wiltshire batsmen. Wickets fell steadily throughout. With three wickets apiece for Steve Mitchell and Jim Smallbone and tidy contributions from Mark Tiplady and Chris Wood, Wiltshire were dismissed for 157 in the 39th over. After this comprehensive win, Hampshire look forward to their final Group game on Sunday next 15th July against the Isle of Wight at Lymington. A win should ensure qualification to the next stage of the Competition.
