HAMPSHIRE V HERTFORDSHIRE
Ian Britton captained the Hants team and immediately lost the toss. Herts elected to bat and reached their 50 in 39 mins off just 9 overs. Barry Newton (7-0-36-0) and Tim Player (7-3-18-0) The introduction of Andy Yorke (8-4-21-1) bowling 4 maidens straight off and Dave Elliott (9-1-23-1) for 7 runs in his first 4 overs stemmed the flow. The next 50 runs took 22 overs. Pete Tapper (7-1-28-2) and Pat Wickson (6-0-26-4) finished them off for a total of 158 with one over left. Highlights for the Hants fielders were two one handed catches by Andy Yorke & two slick run outs.
After tea Terry Morton (never troubled with 74 not out) opened with our skipper Ian Britton (lbw for 6). Alan Wright (ct for 10) and Tony Adams (ct for 9 whilst walking on his stumps), were followed by Tapper with a dominant 33 before being bowled. Yorke joined Morton to see us through to an early victory off only 36 overs.
Perhaps this was a mismatch but you can only beat the opposition who turn up. I bet the next game on 27th May away to Surrey will be much harder.
