HAMPSHIRE V BOURNEMOUTH WANDERERS

The Seniors spent the afternoon chasing leather as a formidable Wanderers batting line up piled on the runs. A solid start from Doust (27) & the elegant Allen (controversially run out for 83) put on 71 for the first wicket. Handley (41) & Donaghue (46) also made useful contributions as the Wanderers closed on 243-7 with only Morton (9-1-36-3), of the Seniors bowlers, with his variety of spin, posing any real problems.

In reply, Morton (47) & ‘keeper Danyige (74) scored 105 for the third wicket to put the Seniors in sight of victory. However the introduction of the mercurial Wickson, Seniors 2nd X1 skipper & “guesting” for the Wanderers quickly changed the game. Bowling his mesmerising grenades into the setting sun, the Seniors batsmen capitulated. There was brief resistance from the big hitters Mitchell (20) & Tiplady (25) but the Seniors fell 15 runs short with Wickson (5.4-0-40-5) purchasing the obligatory jug for his efforts. An enjoyable afternoon.
