DORSET v HAMPSHIRE
Skipper was advised to bat FIRST and duly won the toss. S. Lent opened with debutant Bob Sullivan (49yrs young scored a comfortable 28 before being lbw, but he is a left hander). C Handley (17) and keeper Guy Clifford (28) followed. Our youth of P Doust at 45yrs (22) and another debutant J Wall at 45yrs (39 runs off 32balls including 2 straight 6s) preceeded our ever reliable P Tapper 21 not out and A Yorke 6 not out. The total of 214 for 6 included 47 extras (our highest scorer).
Another lovely but expensive tea was followed by a competent bowling and fielding performance. The Dorset innings faltered when P Tapper took 2 wickets for 2 runs in his first 2 overs. D Osborne, P Doust and P Wickson mopped up the rest. I must mention the stunning direct hit to run out Dorset’s own man of the match who was on 55.
This team remains unbeaten (unlike the 1sts) with 3 out of 3. Thanks to Dick for scoring and Paul Avern for umpiring.
