HAMPSHIRE v HERTFORDSHIRE

On a sunny day in the tranquillity of the Liphook ground Hants won the toss and opted to bat. What a stroke of luck in the scorching heat of that afternoon!

Owen and Watson put on an opening partnership of 135 before Watson was out caught for 42. Owen went on to make another well crafted century, then was run out. The middle order accelerated the run rate with a partnership of 87 between Swain (73 not out) and Hart (40). At 45 overs the score had reached 291 for 5.

In reply Rudder (9-4-25-2) and Hall’s (9-1-27-1) accurate bowling reduced Herts to 38 for 3 with an excellent catch by Hart to dismiss the Herts captain Garside. Hampshire fielded very well with 7 catches held which gave very good support to the bowling of Allum (9-1-27-2), Smallbone (9-2-39-3) and Collins(6.5-0-41-2) – all of whom bowled effectively to dismiss Herts for 181 in the 44th. over. Another excellent win!!!

Pat Hart – Scorer.
