SUSSEX V HAMPSHIRE

On a hot sunny afternoon with a gentle sea breeze at Littlehampton, Hampshire won the toss and opted to bat.

Owen and Blackey put on 28 before Blackey was stumped for 11. Martin Hall made a breezy 24 which included 5 fours. Owen and Swain once again were the backbone of the batting with Owen eventually being bowled for 89 having survived several chances. Swain made an excellent unbeaten 101 and together with Hart 21 not out, the score was pushed to a respectable 252 for 3.

In reply Rudder’s excellent bowling spell with 4 maidens, 2 wickets for 15, removed both Sussex opening bats. Bridle had a good day behind the stumps with 3 stumpings and a catch. Collins baffled the Sussex batsmen with his unpredictable floaters, dismissing 4 batsmen for 35 in 6.2 overs. He was supported by Westbrook who took 3 wickets for 52 off his 9 overs. Once again extras were the 2nd. highest scorer at 38! Hicks (9-1-43-0), Hall (2-0-16-1) and Swain (7-0-49-0) all contributed to finally dismissing Sussex for 218.

Another fine win for Hampshire by 34 runs.

Pat Hart – Scorer.
