HAMPSHIRE V NORFOLK
What a beautiful afternoon in a lovely peaceful setting at Liphook for the very first championship game for the Hampshire 60+ team.
Norfolk won the toss and opted to bat. Stan Rudder (9-2-23-1) and John Hall (9-2-24-0) kept the run rate down. When Hansell was dismissed in the 7th. over there were only 12 runs on the board. Chris Westbrook (9-0-37-3) took the 3 crucial wickets of Pearse 53 Etheridge 36 and Brown who made a quick 46. Chris was backed up by Mick Swain (9-0-54-2) and Stuart Hicks (9-0-67-1) Norfolk finished with 213 for 7 after 45 overs.
In reply Hampshire batted with enthusiasm and intelligence with Geoff Owen 84 not out and Mick Swain 86 not out. Owen and Swain shared an excellent partnership of 140. These two were supported by Ian Watson 28 and Neil Blackey 8. Hampshire reached the target with 4.2 overs to spare. An encouraging start to the championship!
