Hampshire 50+ A vs Somerset 50+ A
Sunday 24 May 2009 at Ellingham
Friendly Fixture

Somerset 277-4
Hampshire 184 all out
Somerset won by 93 runs

The Seniors 2nd X1, fielding an experimental side including some “prospects for the future”, found themselves facing the full might of Somerset, semi-finalists in the 2008 ECB 50+ competition.

The Somerset top order had little difficulty in mastering the Seniors bowling attack as Stephenson (26), Ashton (35), Reeves 31 retired, Ashfold 61 retired, Botton (48) & Scott (30*) all scored freely. Highlights for the Seniors were two top order catches in the deep by Nigel Trapp & Colin Handley.

In reply debutants Vince Dawkins (38) & Mike Callaghan (43*) provided the only real resistance as Brogden (5-36) mopped up the tail.

Nevertheless, an enjoyable game & a useful exercise for the Seniors in the warm New Forest sunshine
