Hampshire 60+ vs Surrey 60+
Tuesday 19th. May 2009 at Hursley Park.
ECB 60+ Friendly
Hampshire 241-4
Surrey 186-7
Hampshire won by 55 runs.
On a very blustery but sunny afternoon Surrey won the toss in their friendly match against Hampshire at Hursley Park and put Hampshire into bat.
Ian Watson and Neil Blackey made a sound start with the score on 43 when Blackey was caught in the 16th. over. Ian Watson was bowled in the 21st. over for 25. Mike Swain and Martin Hall put on 159 before Swain was caught and bowled by Munday for 51. Martin Hall finished with a flourish taking his score to an excellent 113 not out. Hampshire's final score was 241 for 4.
In reply Stuart Hicks (9-1-34-1) and Stan Rudder (9-0-28-0) opened the bowling and their precision made it very difficult for Surrey to score. A needless run out in the 2nd. over saw the end of Plumridge the Surrey opener.
After several unsuccessful appeals for LBW Stuart Hicks finally dismissed Bradbury, the opening bat for 16 in the 14th. over. Chris Westbrook (9-0-22-1) and Jim Smallbone (9-0-40-3) both bowled well to get an early wicket apiece. Gil Collins (4-0-36-0) failed to get his usual haul of wickets but Tony Wharton (5-1-17-1) bowled a very tight spell and conceded few runs in his 5 overs and took the 7th. wicket. So Surrey fell short of the Hampshire total by 55 runs.
Another pleasing result for Hampshire who must not be lulled into complacency as the league matches will prove a much greater challenge.
