South Africa 2007 (1)

First Impressions

Hampshire Seniors (pictured) experienced mixed success on their South African cricket safari, winning four of their eight matches, played principally on a variety of stunning grounds in Cape Town and in the Stellenbosch wine growing area.

IBM Hursley batsman Tony Adams produced several key innings and was the tour's leading run scorer, while Bournemouth's Roger Handley played a number of valuable innings.

The Seniors won games at Groot Drakenstein, Knysna, Constantia and against Western Province CC. All the matches were against veteran opposition.

Hampshire Seniors president John Rickard, who showed he had not lost his touch by taking three wicket with his off-spin in the victory at WPCC, reckoned it had been the most successful tour yet.

"We took a party of 42 to the Cape and everyone had a ball. We played some good cricket on some stunning grounds, where the hospitality was often beyond belief," he said.
